Presentation of the Star Class European
Championship in the Townhall of L'Escala to the media.
Last 15th november, the
Royal Spanish Sailing Federation agreed to delegate
the Star Class European Championship organization to
the Club Nàutic L'Escala.
The Race Committee led
by the Distinguished Mr. Josep Mª Guinart, Mayor of
L'Escala, the President of the Royal Spanish Sailing
Federation, Mr. Gerardo Pombo, the President of the
Cathalan Sailing Federation, Mr. Segimón Obradors and
the President of the same Club Nàutic L'Escala, agreed
the celebration of the Championship from 25th until
31st de March 2004.
The act was chaired by
the Mayor of L'Escala, the Distinguished Mr. Josep Mª
Guinart, accompanied by the President of the Club Nàutic
L'Escala, Mr. Javier Martínez. Both sirs were confident
about the organizing capacity of the Townhall and the
entity of L'Escala, which face the engagement of the
celebration of the Star Class European Championship.
The organization of
this kind of events must recieve proper treatment. For
this reason we want to call this event the most important
sailing competition in Catalunya this year.
The main attraction of
this event will be the presence of last years' best
sailors, because the Star Class is the most antique
olympic discipline that exists. Names like José Mº Van
der Ploeg, Guillermo Altadill, Mark Neeleman, Mark Reynolds,
Steve Forset, without forgetting the spanish Roberto
Bermúdez and Gonzalo Gabriel, will fight to get a place
for the future Athens Olympic Games in L'Escala.
The organization of
this race and the proximity with the future venue of
the America's Cup 2007, will be an incentive to know
the country, as many of the sailors are possible "Skipper"
for the different projects.
